Another call for peace and social justice is found in the story of Fr. Phillip, who comes from the Thyolo district, the Likwakwanda village in the southern region of Malawi. The village, consisting of 800 families, relies primarily on subsistence farming, whereby they grow only enough food to feed themselves and perhaps provide a small marketable surplus. They currently have no water wells, electricity, schools, health clinics, churches or library. The St. Mary Immaculate Parish of Plainfield, Illinois has plans to organize efforts to aid Fr. Philip's village by digging water wells and educating the people about planting and growing techniques. When enough funding is available, Fr. Philip and friends will be able to build these much needed facilities.

With the existence of organizations like the Zambia International Group and the Spiritan Mission in the southern portion of Zambia, there has been continual work to combat the HIV/AIDS pandemic, drastic poverty and the lack of educational opportunity for the youth in the country. The HIV pandemic has increased the number of street kids and orphans in this region. The mission of these organizations, and where your generosity will help, is to secure enough funds to provide medications and nutritious food, as well as provide basic education, skills and support to those affected by HIV/AIDS.
